ISSUE 006 BRIEF

INNOVATION - SUSTAINABILITY - HISTORY - FUTURE THINKING

Clearline is a Detroit-based sustainable fashion and textile magazine. It is primarily submissions-based with a few interviews conducted by Clearline editors, both representing artists’ perspectives on how sustainability and fashion intertwine with the ongoing climate emergency. The themes of Clearline manifest through the voices of contributors. Issue 006 will be released in Spring 2026 in print and digital.

When considering textiles' relationship to the environment and to climate action, we kindly ask that during your submission you reflect on the following: past, present, future, and the sustainable threads that weave it together. Key words: innovation, technology, craftsmanship, process, intention, history and the unknown. How are current systems integrating innovative practices? Where do our clothes really come from? And where do they end up: in a landfill, or somewhere more hopeful, stitched into something new. What materials are used in your piece? Where will it end up?

Mediums

Some examples of what we’re looking for: textile projects with a sustainable component, quilts, clothes, weavings, and sculptures that take a deeper look into the cycle of reuse. Poems, stories, photography, or any other artistic medium that is a reflection on fashion and fibers over time.

Color Palette

How can you integrate intentional colorways into your work? What colors come to mind when you think of the key words? Do you envision minimalist tones of gray, black, white and beige that often dominate current trends? Do you picture vibrant pops of colors that can reflect both our digital and natural world? Which natural dyes can create a vibrant palette? Through your colorway, we encourage you to express your vision for the future of textiles.

While thinking about the future can sometimes feel bleak and dystopian in light of climate change, especially when the root of some climate issues are connected to the innovations that advance our society forward, there are also countless innovations for good. We want the color palette to reflect this duality, merging those contrasting feelings into a cohesive vision.

Submission Deadline: October 1, 2025
Clearline 006 Publication: Spring 2026
